Two Texans Taste Jamaica

Nyam Jamaica – Regional & Island Tours

Kingston, Blue Mountains, Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Port Antonio & Treasure Beach

In Jamaica we take eating seriously. Most islands are simply too small or overdeveloped to sustain local agriculture and must rely on imported foods. In Jamaica eating ‘local’ and eating well, is a point of pride.

Throughout Jamaica’s history each newly arrived ethnic group has taken a turn stirring the pot, adding another layer of complexity to Jamaican cuisine. Beginning with the Taino, the Amerindians who settled Jamaica long before Columbus came to the New World, the Spanish, French, British, East Indian, Chinese and African are all intricate to Jamaican cooking. “Out of Many, One People” is never so apt, than when discussing Cuisine!ackee-dish

Jamaican cuisine could be called heavy, but better described as satisfying. Start with breakfast; the island favorites – ackee and codfish or liver or brown stewed chicken, are served with what is called ‘yard food’ – staple foods – green banana, potatoes, pumpkin, plantain, dasheen and dumpling – and I don’t mean “a choice of’’ the above, I mean all of it – yam plus green banana plus potato, plus pumpkin, plus dasheen and the dumpling. Yard foods were traditionally exactly that – sustaining food grown in ones own yard, and the term ‘Yard’ has now come to mean the island of Jamaica.Mt.Plenty-Farm

Come to Jamaica to eat!

We will taste the best Jamaica offers – food that is renowned for it’s power. Usain Bolt plus Yam, need we say more. Jamaica’s produce is prized, we grow the finest- fruits and vegetables, as well as ginger, pimento, sugar, rum, and coffee in the world, in small quantities, but the quality is undeniable.
